Year 9 – Advanced
Course Structure / Timing
a. Term 1
b. Term 2
c. Term 3
d. Term 4
The Year 9 (advanced) maths program is run by our head tutor Ming Lian and consists of
1. Year 9 core content
2. Year 10 extension content (the Year 10 course is essentially the same as Year 9, although
with a bit of extension material and concepts covered in more detail)
3. test preparation,
4. problem solving skills
5. mental mathematics strategies
6. tips (and more)
There is a greater emphasis on algebraic topics (i.e. linear and quadratic functions) as these tend to be the topics where most students perform poorly in and do not fully understand. The program is run at a slightly accelerated pace which is suitable for students of intermediate / advanced / very advanced capability.
Students will already be well acquainted with concepts by the time school starts, which allows for more time dedicated to revising and preparing for in-school assessment / end-of-year exams and improved confidence.
All students will be well resourced, being provided with:
• a weekly set of notes
• additional practice questions (difficult / exam style)
• in-class assessments
• and more
Past feedback has indicated that students benefited greatly from
• Ming’s thought process behind concepts and questions
• Going over concepts that are not well emphasised by teachers and the textbook yet examinable
• Unique strategies / techniques to approaching questions
• General strategy and advice
• Calculator strategy
• Exam strategy and ways to avoid mistakes
These tutorials run in small groups. For more details, please contact us via email at [email protected]

Year 10 – Advanced
Course Structure / Timing
a. Term 1
b. Term 2
c. Term 3
d. Term 4
The Year 10 (advanced) maths program is run by our head tutor Ming Lian and consists of
1. Year 10 core content
2. Year 11 extension content (the Year 10 course covers some Year 11 content, although only
to a small degree of detail – extension helps students better understand the ‘whole picture’)
3. test preparation,
4. problem solving skills
5. mental mathematics strategies
6. tips (and more)
There is a greater emphasis on algebraic topics (i.e. linear and quadratic functions) as these tend to be the topics where most students perform poorly in and do not fully understand. These topics also form the basis of VCE Mathematical Methods and VCE Specialist Maths and students will need to have demonstrated satisfactory (often 80% or above on algebra topic tests) in order to be allowed by their school to enrol in these subjects.
